Our Story
Our Story is one of dedication, passion, hard work and a belief that food insecurity must be addressed in the Wasaga Beach community. 20 years ago, a small group of people decided to take on this challenge and open a food bank in a small building on Mosley Street.
In the early days Volunteers not only provided essential food to those in need but knew each client by their first names. There was a feeling of family helping families.
During the early years both food and cash donations were hard to come by and required endless hours of not only working shifts at the food bank, but pounding the pavement to get corporate, small business and personal donations.
Eventually the demand was more than their building could handle. With the help of Councilor Joe Belanger and the Town of Wasaga Beach the Food Bank was able to move to their current facility at 818 Mosley Street. This allowed us to meet an ever-increasing client base.
When COVID came everything changed, we still had to feed people, but the challenge was massive. Even harder work and dedication were required. We never missed a beat and became stronger and more resilient. Our process had changed and would never again revert to the old ways.
Today we serve more than 3400 men, women and children with more than 60 of the most unbelievably hard-working Volunteers. Their dedication to feeding those less fortunate than ourselves is unmatched. Operations are now 4 days a week and include feeding almost 1000 people each month during 3 weekly shifts, 52 weeks a year and delivering to more than 180 house bound individuals. Our operations team receives annually more than 350,000 lbs. of donated food products and purchases more than $30,000 each month in additional essential food.
We are thankful for the many individual cash donations, grocery store corporate donations, Feed Ontario donations and small business donations. However, without continued donations every month our Food Bank will continue to struggle to meet the growing demands of feeding 13% of the population Wasaga Beach.
Thank you to all of our donors for everything you do.
